In my fieldwork on tea, I have visited tea plantations many times, studying the entire process by which tea travels from the fields to your hands. Within this process, I focus particularly on the moment when tea flowers bloom.
In tea production, if the flowers reach full bloom, the flavor and aroma of the tea leaves decline. For this reason, these small, pure white blossoms—delicate and beautiful—are often regarded as undesirable and removed.
What is originally a natural part of the plant’s growth is forcibly eliminated by human intervention.
In this fleeting existence, I find a sense of beauty within imperfection, and I express the tea flower through painting and installation.
