The Vision of Art Space Fukujuen
Since its founding in 1790 (Kansei 2), Fukujuen has been devoted entirely to tea, evolving alongside Japanese tea culture while redefining tea for modern life. Art Space Fukujuen, created in the spirit of this legacy, is a space where the aesthetics of tea and contemporary art enter into dialogue.
Tea cultivated in Kyoto’s Yamashiro region—shaped by rich nature and history—has never been merely a beverage. It calms the mind, fosters connection, and transforms moments into meaningful experiences. This spirit resonates deeply with the experience of art, where one encounters a work in stillness and engages the senses in new ways.

The Quiet Fulfillment of a Generous Cup of Tea
The feeling of quiet fulfillment that comes from enjoying a generous cup of tea lies at the heart of Art Space Fukujuen. Just as a carefully prepared cup brings a sense of calm richness, an encounter with art leaves a gentle, lasting resonance within. Through curated exhibitions, the space showcases a wide range of artistic expressions, from traditional crafts to contemporary art.
Rooted in a legacy that has continually embraced innovation while preserving time-honored techniques, Fukujuen seeks to connect diverse artistic cultures with modern life and carry them forward into the future. In an age where material abundance alone no longer fulfills us, moments spent savoring tea or encountering art bring quiet depth and stillness to everyday life.
Here, artists, long-time patrons of Fukujuen, and those newly discovering art come together naturally. Each encounter invites a personal experience of culture. To carry home the sense of happiness that unfolds with a generous cup of tea, and the emotion awakened by art—this is the essence of Art Space Fukujuen. With this spirit, we quietly propose a new vision of richness and lifestyle for the times ahead.
